WANTED!!
Property owners to serve on CLV committees. The Board is pleading for owners to step up and get their feet wet by serving on a Committee. A special request this month is for additional volunteers to serve on the Rules & Regulations Committee. Susan Loucka, the Chairperson, says this committee is one that values "common sense" ideas in regards to Village issues. What a fantastic means to obtain a free education as to how your association governs the use of property in the Village.
BACK GATE
Owners may now use your gate cards at the rear gate. Please contact the Christmas Lake office if you encounter any problems.
Chipping Completed
It's fall and the Maintenance staff has officially closed "chipping" season at Christmas Lake Village for the property owners' brush in 2011.
Dan Lautner, the Head of CLV Maintenance, reported that the only "glitch" in his plans was that his crew preferred the piles to be shorter and spread out over a longer stretch of the owner's road frontage. He preferred longer branches as opposed to shorter. Always leave an 8' long branch in lieu of cutting the branch in half. Amazingly, they can chip branches up to 6" in diameter.
"The chipping service is a process, meaning that the crew, with the chipping machine in tow, travels the streets of Christmas Lake Village in search of neatly stacked piles of tree branches. This was done over a 2 week time period, and they visited each subdivision twice.
Next year, the service will once again begin in the middle of October.

The 27th Annual Festival of Lights is fast approaching!
This is the event that the Village residents open their neighborhoods to the public, to share the Christmas spirit and cheer with thousands of visitors near and far. The original concept for the Festival of Lights was to create a means for sharing the beauty and spirit of Christmas Lake Village with other communities. The Festival's dates are Saturday, December 10 and Saturday, December 17, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Notices have been sent out to television and radio stations and newspapers in the area announcing the dates and time of the annual Christmas celebration. This year's event will offer hot chocolate, coffee and cupcakes to festival-goers at the Village Rec Center, served by the members of the Christmas Lake Village Garden Club.
The judging of individual and neighborhood displays will be on the evening of Friday, December 9. Many neighborhoods have been brainstorming, as well as preparing for their displays. The competition for the awards promises to be quite spirited again this year. As in the past, independent judges will be solicited to ensure fairness.
The categories for individual decorations are:
Kid's Favorite (judged by a child)
Best Theme
Best Special Effects
Best Christmas Message
Best Lake Display
Judges' Favorite
Awards for neighborhoods will be:
(Judges' Favorite
Best Use of Lights
Best Theme
Kid's Favorite (judged by a child)
Residents are encouraged to turn on their lights at 5:00 PM each evening through Christmas.
The Maintenance Department will put arrows out on the Festival Route prior to Saturday Night and a map of the route is located on the Christmas Lake Village Website, www.clvillage.com. But, they will also be on hand to help with any misguided visitors who have managed to become lost or somehow veered off the Festival route. This route is a little different this year, as we attempted to keep traffic issues at a minimum. The Village designed a route that safely allows for ingress and egress without creating a bottleneck or a hazard to the drivers. Unfortunately, there are many beautiful displays appearing in the Village that will not be viewed along the Festival route, but anyone not on the Parade route and would like to have their display judged, should contact the Association office at (812) 544-2234.
WAXL radio station in Santa Claus will again be asked to play Christmas music during the Festival. In the past, this has added immensely to the festival-goers holiday experience. In addition, Santa Claus is expected to be here at the Village entrance to greet each and every visitor that desires to participate by following the Festival route .Two of his elves will be on hand to greet the cars and pass out candy canes. Of course, there is no “actual” fee to enter the Village to view the Festival of Lights, but The Village would highly encourage each car to drop off donations in the form of canned goods or cash, for the North Spencer Community Action Center. Along with the elves, there will be other volunteers who will help with making sure that the cash, as well as canned good donations, make it into the hands of the Community Action Center.
Autumn Has Arrived At Christmas Lake Village
Many say that the Village is "hopping" during the summer. First, there's the lakes. If water sports are your thing, Christmas Lake offers residents the opportunity to boat, fish, and swim. Some families have figured out a way to do all of these activities, even on the same day.
But as the summer temperatures begin to drop, and the kids go back to school, Autumn takes center stage. Or maybe you'd prefer to call this season "Fall." However you say it, it's a beautiful time of year at Christmas Lake. "There's still a little fishing going on," says Captain Bob, the Village Lake Officer. "But things are "quieting down" on the water."
A Gift to the Village from Seniors at Heritage Hills High School

On Wednesday, October 12, 2011, our Village was spruced-up, cleaned-up, however you want to say it, by some energetic Seniors from Heritage Hills High School. Their efforts were overseen by Bob Clayton, a CLV resident as well as educator at their school. This "Village Work Day" was a part of the "Senior Work Day" event that occurs all over Spencer County each year.
As they arrived at 8:00 AM, our Maintenance Head, Dan Lautner, divided up the tasks, along with the kids, and they sprang into action. The Gatehouse parking lot was cleaned, trash was picked up along the Village roads, the docks were cleaned and all the dams were cleared of trash and debris that somehow blows onto these areas. Around noon, they all returned to the Gatehouse, tired and dirty, where the Village treated the kids to some pizza and soft drinks.
But what makes these kids stand out is the positive attitudes they carry while they pick up and clean up "Village" trash. Where does this positive attitude come from? Well it has to be the result of the adults and care-givers in their lives, like their parents, teachers and mentors who model the attitude that if something is worth doing, then give it your best effort. To those "VIP's" (Very Important People) who counsel these kids, the residents of Christmas Lake Village applaud you.
And Seniors, the residents of Christmas Lake Village want to thank you, for not only all that was accomplished through your physical efforts, but in the manner that you conducted yourselves. The legacy that you have built for next year's seniors is one to take pride in. The word that comes to mind is EXCELLENCE.
REMINDER- VEOLIA RESIDENTIAL TRASH DAY IS WEDNESDAY
After months of open meetings, debate, bids and considerations, the Christmas Lake Village Board of Directors voted to approve a motion naming one residential trash pick up provider to service Christmas Lake Village.
The motion, rule, and provision call for all residential trash pick up in the Village to be performed on Tuesday and/or Wednesday of each week, and restricts entry of heavy trash trucks (a truck having a total tare weight in excess of 18 tons) to the designated provider. Veolia Environmental Services submitted the winning bid for a 3 year contract. Veolia is making arrangements to continue their service on January 1, 2012. You may have become aware of this by reading the minutes from the last Board of Directors meeting.
If you are currently taking your trash to the county dumping site, you may certainly continue to do so. As in previous years, other trash companies will not be allowed access into the Village for he purpose of providing residential service.
Again, there are four primary reasons for going this way.
There will be but one heavy residential trash truck on our roads per week
Trash cans will be at curbside only from 6:00 PM the day previous to pick up until 6:00PM the day of pick up leaving our Village streets looking cleaner.
With one point of contact we are confident of improved overall service
The rate will be lower ($12.91/month) in many cases
Feel free to contact the Association office if you have questions.
We find it necessary to remind you that we all have to share the CLV roadways. Drivers- please watch your speed and remain alert for people along the roadways. Give as much room as you can. Walkers/joggers- please wear colors that can be seen and carry a flashlight if you are out after dark. Walk into oncoming traffic and please, if you are walking 2 or more abreast, switch to single file if a car approaches you. If you are walking down a hill, chances are the driver cannot see oncoming traffic.

A Cleaner Christmas Lake Village
Please put trash where it belongs, in your garbage cans. There are also public garbage cans throughout the village if you need. Please dont pollute our beautiful land and roads!!
Each CLV resident knows what a special place we have. Let’s remember to keep it that way.
Don’t throw trash or debris from your car. When taking trash to curb, store in container so animals cannot get to it.
Please rinse recycled items to reduce smell when utilizing recycling center.
Digital Photographs of previous "Festival of Lights" displays. The Christmas Lake Village Staff is in desperate need of these pictures to include in an article for the December 2011 Newsletter.
We're confident that there has been so many excellent displays in previous years, that someone may have taken a digital photograph. If so, please contact the office and make a copy of your digital photo so that me may consider it for use in the upcoming Santa's Letter.
