CLV Board of Directors - An opportunity to become a part of the oversight of CLV
It’s not too early for each of our property owners in good standing to give serious thought to serving on the Christmas Lake Village Board of Directors. Every year at the annual meeting in June, the property owners elect 3 new Board members to replace those whose term is expiring. Each Board member is elected by the property owners for a 3 year term and a Board member can only serve 2 consecutive 3 year terms. The Board is made up of 9 property owners.
If you have an interest in serving, you must submit your name and a brief biographical resume to introduce yourself to the other property owners who will be voting. This must be into the Property Manager’s office no later than April 24.
You may be asking what are the expectations and time constraints involved in this role.
First you need to have a desire to serve in the best interests of all issues that come before the Board affecting CLV. If you have a “pet project” that is your only motivation for serving – this is not the place for that.
Second the Board holds regular monthly meeting on the 2nd Thursday of every month – normally 2 – 3 hours.
CLV has several standing committees on which each Board member serves usually on 2 or 3 of their choosing and these meet at various times throughout the year depending on the urgency of issues before the committee. These include Business Planning – establishing the operating budget for the next year; Rules and Regulations – review and amending the various rules affecting the Lakes, Parks, Building guidelines, Renters, and other areas within CLV; Personnel – review issues affecting all CLV employees; Parks and Recreation- affects improvements to our recreational facilities; Nominations – affects annual elections and occasional vacancies on the Board; Infrastructure – affects maintaining roads, drainage, right-of-ways and other common use areas. There are some other committees that are appointed to meet from time to time on specific issues. Each of these committees also include non-board member property owners.
The Board is governed by our By-laws and Covenants and Restrictions, of which we become very knowledgeable and work to the best of our ability to abide by.
The Board is involved in issues affecting an individual property owner in which these are generally brought before our monthly meeting. Long term projects for the betterment of the Village and our property values are an ongoing part of our business. We interact with the Town of Santa Claus on issues affecting CLV such as the street light additions, developing the Neighborhood Watch program, police protection and improper activities.
We try to build a sense of community spirit with such programs as the free summer concert series in the park, garage sale, and Festival of Lights.
Our Village is made up of over 2150 lots, more than 800 homes, 26 miles of roads, 3 lakes, 2 parks, a 24/7 gated security operation and lots of opportunities to make this an even better place to call home. We operate with a very limited budget. Show me any town in Indiana that can operate on $710,000 for a town of 2000 residents.
Your CLV Board needs passionate, committed residents who desire to be involved in their community. I only have a year remaining in my second term and I can only say this has been a wonderful opportunity to meet many of our outstanding residents, hopefully make some major improvements for the betterment of the entire Village, and resolve many individual’s specific concerns.
Hopefully this will challenge you to become involved in your community.
Sincerely,
Don Vogel, President
CLV Board of Directors
