WANTED!!
Property owners to serve on CLV committees. The Board is pleading for owners to step up and get their feet wet by serving on a Committee. A special request this month is for additional volunteers to serve on the Rules & Regulations Committee. Susan Loucka, the Chairperson, says this committee is one that values "common sense" ideas in regards to Village issues. What a fantastic means to obtain a free education as to how your association governs the use of property in the Village.
BACK GATE
Owners may now use your gate cards at the rear gate. Please contact the Christmas Lake office if you encounter any problems.
Chipping Completed
It's fall and the Maintenance staff has officially closed "chipping" season at Christmas Lake Village for the property owners' brush in 2011.
Dan Lautner, the Head of CLV Maintenance, reported that the only "glitch" in his plans was that his crew preferred the piles to be shorter and spread out over a longer stretch of the owner's road frontage. He preferred longer branches as opposed to shorter. Always leave an 8' long branch in lieu of cutting the branch in half. Amazingly, they can chip branches up to 6" in diameter.
"The chipping service is a process, meaning that the crew, with the chipping machine in tow, travels the streets of Christmas Lake Village in search of neatly stacked piles of tree branches. This was done over a 2 week time period, and they visited each subdivision twice.
Next year, the service will once again begin in the middle of October.

CLV Garden Club
The CLV Garden Club continues to stay busy even through the winter months. In February the club elected the following officers; president, Sue Fuhrman, vice president, Agnes Titzer, secretary, Janet Shelton, treasurer, Mary Ellen Morgan, and recording secretary, Nancy Ringeman.
In March the club will meet with Robin of Robin’s Nest Greenhouse in Boonville. Tim Griffith of Wild Birds Unlimited will lead the April meeting at Santa’s Lodge. In May, the group will visit a rose garden in Huntingburg.
This past fall the club planted a garden in memory of the September 11 victims. The garden is on the left just past the front gate after you drive in.
“We wanted to make it distinctive,” club member, Agnes Titzer said. They added Chinese holly, a bench, a Ginkgo tree and an engraved stone plaque.
“I like natural things like stone,” said Bette Rice, who donated the plaque. Bette is a member of Garden Club but can no longer garden with the group because of arthritis. “The stone came from the foundation of the old Mariah Hill School,” Bette said.
Garden Club meets the 3rd Monday of each month. For more information please call Sue Fuhrman at 544-3365. New members are always welcome.
Red Hats Concentrate on Enjoying Life
Lois Martin’s Red Hats Lunch Bunch enjoys a new restaurant and each others’ company the third Thursday of each month. For March the ladies will be eating at Firefly Southern Grill in Evansville and then shopping at Macy’s. The April and May lunches have not been planned at this time.
“Some of us are going to National Convention in Nashville, Tennessee,” said Lois Martin. “We have six members including Kay Bertl, Peg Fairbanks, Donna Ramholz, Corky Rink, Dee Woodham, and me going April 25 through the 29th.”
If interested in joining the Red Hat Lunch Bunch, please contact Lois Martin at 544-2879.
The Red Hats Reigning Dears are staying busy as well. On March 14 these ladies will enjoy a day of shopping at the Grand Opening of Dillard’s in Evansville. On April 11 the ladies will be having a Local Mystery Colorful Spencer County Restaurant Adventure. Some of the Dears will be attending the National Red Hat Convention in Nashville.
In May the Dears will convene for their general planning meeting at first Pat Gehlhausen’s house, and then move across the street to Sue Schmidt’s house. The ladies will be participating in a progressive pot-luck picnic for this event.
If interested in joining the Red Hats Reigning Dears, please contact Merry Riggle at 544-3362.
Santa Claus Optimist
At their March 5 meeting the Santa Claus Optimist will be holding their Oratorical Finalist contest to determine who the club will send from this area to the next level for a chance to win a college scholarship.
The Spring Fling will be held April 16 at the CLV Recreation Center and be hosted by Al and Martha Hemmer. The Spring Fling is the Optimist membership drive where many visitors are invited to see the many ways the Optimists “bring out the best in kids”.
Once again the Optimist are inviting CLV to participate in the Avenue of Flags. For $30 per year the Optimist will place an American Flag in front of your home on five national holidays. These holidays are Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and Veteran’s Day. All proceeds for this program go to help the local youth become better citizens or they are used to support a Youth Cancer Camp. For more information call Bill Cherolis at 544-2722, email santaclaus@optimistindiana.org, or fill out the application found on the Optimist website.
The Santa Claus Optimist Club has launched a new web site at www.optimistindiana.org\clubs\santaclaus. Check out their site to find out latest news and information. The Club meets at Santa’s Lodge the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
Digital Photographs of previous "Festival of Lights" displays. The Christmas Lake Village Staff is in desperate need of these pictures to include in an article for the December 2011 Newsletter.
We're confident that there has been so many excellent displays in previous years, that someone may have taken a digital photograph. If so, please contact the office and make a copy of your digital photo so that me may consider it for use in the upcoming Santa's Letter.
