CLV Garden Club
The Garden Club continues growing their knowledge of beautification throughout the summer months with three exciting programs.
In June Peggy Brooks will teach how to use herbs in both traditional and non-traditional ways. She will also be instructing everyone on making a dried herb wreath. Kristen Moran will be presenting Gardening for Wildlife in July. In August Tim Griffith will speak on Wild Birds Unlimited.
“We would be thrilled to have anyone join us anytime,” said Ann Vogel. “We would love to have new people come.”
Anyone interested in increasing their knowledge of the outdoors is encouraged to attend Garden Club. If interested in attending any program or helping out on work days, please contact Garden Club President Ann Vogel at 544-2033 or Telephone Chairperson Vicki Fowler at 544-2866.
Red Hats Concentrate on Enjoying Life
“Never a dull moment with the prancing Dears!” said Queen Merry. “Santa has his hands full trying to control this gang.”
Santa’s Reigning Dears will have a mystery meeting for June. Queen Merry Riggle and Duchess Sheila Johnson will represent the Dears at the National Red Hat Convention in St. Louis June 7 – 11.
On July 27th the Dears will host Red Hat Day at Ellis Park. August will be the third birthday celebration for the Reigning Dears. Several of the Dears will be attending a Mini Convention at the Galt House in Louisville August 18, 19, & 20 over the clubs birthday weekend.
Lois Martin’s Red Hat Group, also known as “The Lunch Bunch” meets the third Thursday of each month to enjoy each other and varied dining experiences. The June and July locations have not been decided yet. In August the ladies will be traveling to Newburgh to enjoy the brand new Tootie’s restaurant.
For more information regarding “The Lunch Bunch” please call Lois Martin at 544-2879.
Santa Claus Optimist
The Optimist Club of Santa Claus is inviting all CLV residents to participate in the Avenue of Flags for 2006. For $30 club volunteers will place an American Flag in front of your home on the following five national holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4th, Labor Day and Veteran’s Day.
“We sent out 176 applications to the folks who had the flags up last year,” said Optimist President Don Riggle. “Then we sent out 600 additional applications. We sent them to every person in CLV.”
All proceeds from this project are donated to organizations serving local youth and to support Camp Carefree Indiana, a cancer camp for children. If interested in participating please contact Bill Cherolis at 544-2722.
Optimists are also sponsoring children at law camp at USI and Vincennes University in June. Children entering fifth and sixth grade are welcome to attend. Contact Mary Schriefer for more information.
If interested in joining or learning more about Optimist, call Don Riggle at 544-3362.
