CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:

Construction work for the new storm drain in the Star Drive/Sleigh Bell area is currently underway.  Please be aware of workers and heavy equipment around the road ways.  Each of the above roads will need to be cut and excavated at some point before the project is complete which will create an "around the block" detour.  We appreciate your patience during the construction period.

Lincoln Heritage Public LibraryCommunity Spotlight: Lincoln Heritage Public Library

The kids are bound to really “Get Wrapped up in Reading” this summer at Lincoln Heritage Public Library (LHPL). Ancient Egypt will be explored through stories, games, crafts and programs.

This isn’t just for fun though. “This will be promoting reading during the summer,” said Rebecca Rau, LHPL Children’s Librarian. “By having to read 20 minutes a day it helps them keep their reading skills up over the summer.”

A few of the highlighted programs include Silly Safari’s Jungle John who will educate and entertain the children with Egyptian animals. “He educates the kids while talking to them and being crazy at the same time,” said Rau.

Snake Head Ed will bring 10 snakes to teach the kids with as well. There will be several local residents, including several CLV residents who will share stories of either their travels to or studies of Egypt.

Children ages 3 through entering 2nd grade are designated as mummies. Children entering 3rd grade through 5th grade are Pharaohs and students entering 6th grade through 12th grade will be designated Sphinx. A local embalmer will even explain how the Egyptians embalmed dead people, creating mummies.

LHPL caters to the more mature reading crowd as well. The Between the Covers Book Club discusses one book the last Thursday of each month. The book club will discuss Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson on June 30th.

The library will also be hosting bluegrass music played by Midstream at the Dale Park Gazebo on June 16th.

Contact LHPL (937-7170) for more information on upcoming events.

Holiday World Wins Major Award

With a coveted award under its belt and past years of rising attendance Holiday World is confidently growing the park again this year.

Holiday World won the Applause award, the top award granted in its industry. The Applause award is given to one park worldwide every two years and some of the past recipients are Disneyland, Universal Studios Florida, Busch Gardens, and Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH.

To commemorate winning this award a replica of the award will eventually be placed in the middle of the fountain just inside the park’s entrance.

“Bahari is the big, new thing,” the park has added for this year said Holiday World president Will Koch. “Bahari is in addition to The Wave. The Wave has 18,000 square feet while Bahari has 33,000 square feet.” Bahari (rhymes with safari) is Swahili for “immense sea”.

Koch said that Bahari is more than just a wave pool. It has rock designs, big tiki heads and a play area for kids. “This is the most themed thing we’ve ever done,” said Koch.
“We have also added three acres of new deck and 700 new chairs,” to the Splashin’ Safari area said Koch.

The amusement park has also added Revolution, an updated version of the Roundhouse. Revolution offers more seating, a higher, faster spin and “a cool light package” for night riding. An additional car has been added to The Raven in order to shorten lines.

If you are looking to be the next American Idol you practice your routines at the new Karaoke talent time in the Hoosier Celebration outdoor theater in the evenings.

In addition to the Applause award the park also received the Golden Ticket awards for having the cleanest park (five years in a row), friendliest park (seven years in a row), and the Raven rated the number three wooden coaster, and the Legend the number five wooden coaster.
